Welcome to the 11th Pan-European Conference on International Relations and to beautiful Barcelona! For Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) it is a great pleasure to host this year’s edition of the Conference. As an institute founded 2004 and dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge through advanced research and postgraduate education, our aim has always been to increase the understanding of our world's contemporary global challenges in the domains of politics and international relations. This year’s EISA Conference provides us with an eminent opportunity to do so. We trust the Conference will provide you with ample opportunity to meet and exchange views with leading academics and researchers, friends and colleagues, as well as sponsors and exhibitors.
The topic of the conference 'The Politics of International Studies in an Age of Crises' is an important and timely one. With multiple, multi-dimensional and cross-national crises gripping not only the European continent but also the rest of the world, it is a pressing task to enquire into what kind of role International Relations should play in navigating these opportunities and challenges and to begin to chart the way forward for the discipline.
Barcelona considered a global, cosmopolitan city, is among the most visited in Europe and, indeed, the world. Culture, arts, architecture and the culinary scene flourish in Barcelona in a uniquely Mediterranean way. The Conference is held at the premises of the Pompeu Fabra University, composed of a set of refurbished 19th century military barracks and state of the art ultramodern buildings. The campus – located next to the emblematic Ciutadella Park, home to the 1888 Universal Exposition, and within walking distance of some of the city’s excellent beaches – boasts excellent access to local transport and all technological commodities.
We wish you a successful three days of stimulating discussions and plenty of networking opportunities.
